Governors Island Walking Tour

August 6 – Governors Island Walking tour

June 28, 2011

ONY founder, Carter Craft, hosts waterfront tours on boat, bike or foot.  He will host a walking tour of Governors Island for the Municipal Art Society on August 6th, 2011.

Governors Island offers a singular vantage point from which to see the last 200 years of the life of New York Harbor and a glimpse into the next 200.  The tour will cover the historic National Park Service Castle of Williams and Fort Jay, the Buttermilk Channel and Redhook, as well as the new addition of the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School.  Completeing the tour, we will look at the steps toward sustainability on the island, including the Added Value Farm and Earth Matter composting station.  For more information see the MAS website http://mas.org/tours/

Three Parishes Organ Concert

May 15 – Music in the Afternoon: A Progressive Organ and Piano Concert

May 15, 2011

This Organ and Piano Concert will be an experience in the majesty and intricacy of three of Hoboken’s working pipe organs.  The Music Directors, organists, and an organ builder will offer nearly an hour of music and insight at three participating parishes.  What makes an organ work?  What’s the difference between spiritual and secular music?  Is there a difference?  What was the Church experience like before organs, and what may come next?

The Community Church of Hoboken (6th and Garden Streets)

3:15 – 4:15 pm
