NY400 – Holland on the Hudson
In 2009, The Kingdom of the Netherlands hired ONY to serve as Safety and Communications Director for NY400, the “Holland on the Hudson” Celebration commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic voyage. This responsibility involved planning and executing 14 days of on-water events in over a dozen different venues throughout the City and the Harbor. ONY designed and developed a Safety and Communications Manual, and planned a wide range of event and ship parade logistics as well as overnight berthing arrangements for over 80 vessels, as small as 14 feet and as large as 470 feet in length. These events were supported by over ship-based 1,000 personnel and involved live television, numerous local dignitaries as well as the Dutch Royal Family.
NYC Swim is the oldest organization that hosts swim events in the waters around New York City. ONY was instrumental in the planning and production of two new events: the Statue of Liberty Swim and the New York City Pro Swim. Every swim event is supported by a small fleet of kayaks and small boats, as well as many safety and security agencies. Swimmers took off from the main dock on Liberty Island and swam counterclockwise around the island. Stakeholders in this swim were the National Park Service, Liberty Landing Marina, US Park Police and Statue of Liberty Ferry Inc. Red Bull Air Race
In 2010, Red Bull Air Race New York / New Jersey hired Outside New York to coordinate water operations and act as the primary interface between the Head of Water Operations, the National Event Manager, the New York Police Department, the US Coast Guard, and the overall maritime community. This included pre- and post-event planning activities, such as negotiations and communications with stakeholders and authorities in conjunction with the National Event Manager; as well as employing extensive local knowledge to source potential international Water Operations Requirements and to manage local port regulations and restrictions. On site, Outside New York provided on ground support to the National Site Manager, acted as the main point of contact in designated areas during the event, assited international teams with operations, and acted as the primary contact and greeter for the US Coast Guard onsite. The event included over 30,000 spectators and live network tv coverage.
