Panel Discussion

The East River shoreline in Western Queens is one of the few major stretches of waterfront in New York City where community access is not blocked by a highway or railroad. As industry has moved out of the area, issues around what to do with the shoreline remain.
In a panel discussion bringing together a noted planner/architect, a community activist, and two artists involved in The Noguchi Museum/Socrates Sculpture Park project, Civic Action: A Vision for Long Island City, Diana Balmori, Katie Ellman, Natalie Jeremijenko, and George Trakas will discuss the reinvention of Long Island City’s post-industrial urban waterfront.
Moderated by Carter Craft, Principal of Outside New York.

Progressive Organ and Piano Concert
Hosted by Three Parishes
Sunday May 15, 2011
2pm -5.30pm
Please join us for an afternoon of music as we experience and enjoy the majesty and intricacy of three of Hobokens’ working pipe organs. Music Directors, organists and an organ builder at three participating parishes will each offer nearly an hour of music and insight. What makes an organ work? What’s the difference between spiritual and secular music? Is there a difference? What was the Church experience like before organs, and what may come next?
Your Free Will offering at each parish is all that is requested for this program. Come to one parish you’ve never visited before, or join us for all three!
